Natural Gas Prices Jump More Than One Dollar Over The Past Week

Fuel prices were up across the board for the week ending Wednesday, Feb. 2, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Data from AAA Iowa show the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.22 across the state. That is up seven cents from last week and 89 cents higher than one year ago. The national average was up six cents to $3.40. Retail diesel prices climbed eight cents to a statewide average of $3.57. This is 17 cents below the national average of $3.74 per gallon but more than a dollar higher than February 2021. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged at $2.16 per gallon. Prices were more volatile for home heating fuels with propane up one cent per gallon to $1.93 with home heating oil climbing 11 cents to $3.26 per gallon. Natural gas prices spiked $1.23 at the Henry Hub reporting site to $5.36 per MMbtu.
