Lake City officials are welcoming the newest addition to the community’s police department, Stephen Hale. Hale’s hire was formally approved by the city council on Jan. 27, and he was out for his first official patrol in Lake City last week. This is his first foray into civilian police work, but Hale says he does have law enforcement experience.
Hale says he is fortunate to be able to remain nearby family as he makes the transition to a full-time law enforcement career.
He says his first few months on the job will be spent getting a handle on the intricacies of traffic and code enforcement. Hale is slated to attend the 13-week Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in May to attain full certification and is excited to get out on patrol serving the community.
According to Police Chief, Dan Schaffer, they are working to hire one more additional officer. Once that process is completed, the Lake City Police Department will be up to four certified officers, which is considered fully staffed for the agency.
