Iowa Secretary Of Agriculture Urges Iowa Avian Producers To Monitor Flock Health After HPAI Identified In Midwestern Flock

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, is encouraging Iowa producers to monitor their livestock closely after avian flu was confirmed in a Midwestern turkey flock on Wednesday. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was found in Dubois County, Indiana. Naig says, “We do not have any known connections to the infected flock and are closely monitoring imports of poultry and poultry products into Iowa from Indiana. We will continue working with USDA, livestock producers and other stakeholders to develop, test and strengthen our foreign animal disease preparedness and response plans.” Iowa producers are asked to remain diligent in reviewing and implementing their biosecurity protocols and monitor their animals closely for potential signs of illness.
