Seven area schools have been selected by the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation (IALF) to receive grant funding to facilitate introduction of ag education into school curriculums or after-school programming. The Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher Supplement grants were created to help instructors develop new projects or expand existing ones with the funds used to cover innovative lessons, activities, classroom resources, field trips and more. Grants of up to $250 were provided to eight teachers at Carroll, Paton-Churdan, Denison, St. Rose of Lima, Zion Lutheran in Denison, Glidden-Ralston and IKM-Manning. IALF Interim Executive Director, Barb Lykins, says, “We had very high-quality applications this year involving agriculture in core curriculum in innovative and creative ways. These projects will allow teachers to make learning real and relevant for their students and still align to the state educational standards.” The grants were made possible through support from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Projects must be completed and implemented by the end of the 2021-22 school year with final reports submitted by June 6. The full list of local recipients can be found included below.
