No injuries were reported following a Monday afternoon fire at a home in Carroll. The Carroll Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 4:45 p.m. to 708 N. East St. in response to the reported blaze. According to Chief, Greg Schreck, smoke was emanating from the bathroom and laundry room of the home owned by Brad and Joy Vonnahme when crews arrived at the scene. The two occupants in the structure were able to escape without injury, and firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to other areas in the home. However, Schreck says there was extensive damage near the fire’s origin and smoke and heat damage totaling approximately $25,000 was reported throughout the house. The cause of the blaze is still uncertain, but early indications are it may have started in the laundry room’s exhaust fan. Schreck will be returning to the home today (Tuesday) to investigate further.
