A Kuemper Catholic High School student has been selected to receive the Heider Foundation’s Grit Scholarship to attend Creighton University. The scholarship was created for students who attend Creighton Preparatory, Duchesne Academy, Marian High School, Mercy High School or Kuemper Catholic and is not your typical merit-based scholarship. It was designed for individuals who display a high potential for success that may not show through traditional measures and have overcome substantial challenges to acheive academic excellence. Senior, Ayak Dut of Carroll, has been awarded $30,000 per year, renewable for four years, and was considered the top applicant by Creighton’s selection committee. The Heider Foundation was created by Carroll native and investor, Charles Heider, and his wife, Mary, and has donated substantial sums to organizations in his home community. Other Grit Scholarship recipients include five students from Creighton Prep and one student each from Duchesne Academy, Marian High School and Mercy High School. Photos from Thursday’s scholarship presentation can be found included with this story on our website.
