Law enforcement has released additional details of a fatal, two-vehicle crash from Tuesday morning near Dedham. According to an initial report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2010 Ford F-150, driven by 58-year-old Rae Jean Lepird of Carroll, was traveling eastbound on Highway 141 just west of the Olympic Avenue intersection at 8:50 a.m. when the driver lost control due to icy road conditions and crossed the centerline. The Lepird truck then collided with a westbound 2018 Dodge Caravan, operated by 32-year-old Ashley Dawn Kesselring of Coon Rapids. Kesselring, who was 8.5 months pregnant at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lepird was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dedham, Coon Rapids and Templeton Fire Departments also assisted at the scene. Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
