The Carroll Police Department responded to two motor-vehicle collisions yesterday (Tuesday), but slick road conditions were believed to be the cause of only one of them. Officers were dispatched at approximately 4:53 a.m. to the intersection of U.S. Highways 30 and 71. Their initial investigation determined a 2001 Ford F150, driven by 52-year-old Juan Meza-Gonzalez of Denison, was traveling eastbound on 30 and was unable to stop for a 2008 Jeep Liberty, driven by 22-year-old Samuel Vandervegte of Denison, that was stopped at the red light, resulting in disabling damage to the Gonzalez truck. Authorities were called later that morning to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 30 and Main Street at approximately 10:25 a.m. According to law enforcement, an eastbound 2016 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, driven by 54-year-old Lance Graham of Bellevue, Neb., failed to stop for a red light and collided with a southbound 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 42-year-old Mary Chieng of Denison, in the intersection. The Tahoe continued south and collided with a 2017 Ford Explorer, operated by 65-year-old Debra Nepple of Carroll, who was waiting to make a left-turn onto the highway. Chieng was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Graham was cited for failure to maintain control.
