Lytton Man Faces Multiple Felony Charges Following Investigation Into Burnt SUV

A Lytton man faces multiple felony charges following an investigation that began earlier this month with a burnt SUV. At approximately 5:17 a.m. on Feb. 16, the Lytton Fire Department and Sac County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of a 2005 Chevrolet Blazer burning just south of Lytton. Authorities say nobody was near the vehicle, and they later learned the vehicle had been reported stolen. A handgun from inside the SUV was also reported missing, but law enforcement was unable to locate it in the wreckage. The following morning, deputies were dispatched to a home in Lytton for a reported disturbance and spoke with the individuals on scene, 28-year-old Casey Herrig and 26-year-old Rae Beth Horton. Authorities determined both individuals had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody. Additional investigation revealed Herrig, who is a convicted felon, was in possession of the pistol reported missing the previous day. Herrig was arrested Wednesday in Nemaha on charges of second-degree arson, a class C felony, and second-degree theft and possession of a firearm by a felon, class D felonies. Herrig remained in custody at the Sac County jail as of Friday morning on a $20,000 bond.
