Carroll County Supervisors Schedule Public Hearing For FY23 Max Property Tax Rate For March 14

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has scheduled their public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 maximum property tax levy for their March 14 meeting. The supervisors are moving forward with a $4.30166 urban rate and $7.34381 for the rural levy. Auditor, Kourtney Payer, explains how these levies impact taxpayers.

In an effort to increase transparency concerning taxes, Iowa law requires governments to set a ceiling for most of the levies available to them. However, Supervisor, Gene Meiners, notes it does not include all possible levies.

With the Debt Service Levy included, the urban rate climbs to $4.95132, and rural increases to $7.99347. Supervisor, Scott Johnson, wanted clarification on what debt this levy would be servicing.

The March 14 public hearing on the FY23 maximum property tax levy will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the supervisors’ regularly scheduled meeting for that week. Once the resolution setting the maximum levy has been approved, the board will then schedule a separate hearing on their FY23 budget before filing with the Iowa Department of Management.
