Charles Green of Lake View

Charles Gerald Green, age 81 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022, surrounded by family at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA at the age of 81 years, 4 months, 21 days. According to “Charlie”, all 29,730 days of his life on this earth mattered.
Charlie was born on October 7, 1940, in Springfield, Minnesota to parents Edward Sr. and Glendora (Maha) Green. He was baptized on December 29, 1940. He had 12 siblings in his family. He attended school through 9th grade and soon found he was “smarter than the principal” so he told his dad he was going to venture south to warmer weather, 300 miles later he settled in Lake View.
On August 23, 1959, Charlie married Sandra (Auen). Their union was blessed with children Charlene, Stewart, Pamela, and Connie. The couple later divorced. On December 31, 1971, Charles married the love of his life Ruth Maack, at the Methodist Church in Sac City, IA. Their union was blessed with daughter Tonia, Ruth’s daughters Tami and Kathi then completed the family. Charlie, known to his buddies as “Easy Rider” was a truck driver for 45 years and enjoyed driving Kenworth trucks. His trucks were black of course because according to him there was no other color. He became a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View through confirmation on March 26, 2006.
Charlie enjoyed gardening and flowers. You could often see him driving around beautiful Blackhawk Lake in either one of his pride and joys, a 1980 Chrysler or 1972 Sprint. He also had a special seat at “The Bar” in Lake View.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years Ruth Green of Lake View, IA; children Charlene Green of Omaha, NE, Pamela King of Carroll, IA, Connie Radke of Omaha, NE, Tonia (Scott) Winterhof of Galva, IA; Tami (Mark) Auen of Lake View, IA, Kathi (Jack) DeBourgh of Lake View, IA; sisters: Frances Altermatt, Phyllis Haugen, Darleen (Jim) Erlichman, Laurie Evans, Beverly (Bob) Bolduc, Rosie (Steve) O’Brien, and Glennette Green; brothers: Edward Green Jr. and David (Doreen) Green; grandchildren: Aaron King, Matt (Brittany) Schramm, Justin (McKenzie) Schramm, Allyson Radke, Bailey (Corey) Broxson, Stephanie Auen, Cody (Colleen) Auen, Shelby (Joe) Herrig; great-grandchildren: Haley Jo, Zach, Alex, Kyler, Konnor, Veronica, Penelope, Arthur, Lucy, and Clete.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Sr. and Glendora Green; son Stewart Green and infant son Charles Green Jr.; sister: Anita Otremba; brothers: Douglas and Dennis Green; grandson: Tyler Winterhof; and great-grandson Martin.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Black Hawk Lake Protection Association or the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Lake View, IA.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2022, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, IA, with Reverend Donald Peterson III officiating. Burial will take place at the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at the church.
