Two Crawford County Men Ordered To Pay $3,000 For Illegal Disposal Of Solid Waste

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has fined two Crawford County Residents $3,000 for the illegal disposal and open burning of solid waste. According to an administrative consent order issued last week, Nick Ohl of Dow City was issued a letter of noncompliance in October 2014 for illegally burning two trailer homes in a court he owns in Dow City. Additionally, Ray Ohl, also of Dow City, was cited in October 2021 after tearing down a residential structure and failing to dispose of the debris properly. The remains were set on fire two weeks after the house was taken down, requiring the Dow City Fire Department to respond to the scene to extinguish them. According to their agreement with the DNR, the Ohls will cease illegal open burning of combustible materials and properly dispose of solid waste in the future. The DNR also ordered the pair to pay $3,000 in fines within 90 days of the order.
