Rita Kennebeck of Carroll

Rita Agnes Kennebeck, age 95, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

     Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant.  Music for the Mass will be by Kathy Halbur, Tina Boell, and Maurecia King.  Mass servers will Colin and Jordyn Schulte.  Eucharistic minister will be Diane Boell.  Lectors for the Mass will be Sara Schulte and Kelsie Richardson.  Gift bearers will be Kristen Kleen, Shannon Reis, Kerry Kenebeck, and Karsyn Lampe.  Casket bearers will be Gunner Gilland, Cameron Knobbe, Corey Kennebeck, J.D. Kennebeck, Francis Kennebeck, Brady Boell, and Jason Kennebeck.  Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale.

     Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M.  Visitation will resume at the church from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday.

      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and may be left with the funeral home, at the church, or online at cff.org.

      Rita was born on April 13, 1926 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Leo and Florence (Conroy) Wiederien.  She graduated from St. Angela Academy.  Rita was married to Jospeh Kennebeck on October 9, 1945 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale by Fr. Lawrence Schoeppner.  The couple made their home north of Carroll where they raised their children.  Rita was proud to still remain on the farm until her passing.  She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.  She made long lasting friendships working various jobs in Carroll over the years which included The Red Carpet, Farner Bocken, the Carrollton Inn, Grams, and Mallard View.  Rita was also known to “retire” multiple times only to go back to work.  She also enjoyed afternoon cards with her long time card club – The Wheeler Card Club.

     Rita is survived by her children and their families: daughter Diane Boell (Eugene) of Carroll, son John Kennebeck (June) of Glidden, son Dave Kennebeck (Sue) of Carroll, son Donald Kennebeck (Irene) of Springfield, IL, son Dale Kennebeck (Bonny) of Carroll, daughter Julie Gilland of Shelby, IA, and daughter Jeannie Lampe (Jeff) of Carroll; 30 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; a sister Bernice Wenck (Bill) of Carroll; a sister-in-law Lola Wiederien of Glidden; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

     Rita was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Florence Wiederien; her father and mother-in-law Sophia and Joseph Kennebeck; her husband Joseph in 1998; and her siblings: Paul Wiederien (Evelyn), Gene Wiederien, John “Richard” Wiederien, and Delores Wiederien in infancy; and a son-in-law Doyle Gilland.
