The Carroll City Council will hold a public hearing for their Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 budget and vote on a resolution formally adopting that budget at their meeting scheduled for Monday evening. According to City Manager Mike Pogge-Weaver, the public hearing is one of the last items of business on the council’s agenda. He outlines the key points in the FY23 document.
Before the budget hearing, city officials are hosting a separate public hearing to issue up to $2.65 million in General Obligation (GO) bonds. Pogge-Weaver says the funds will be used for road improvements in town, but the amount will vary depending on what projects the council decides to pursue.
Pogge-Weaver says this hearing and pre-levy resolution are needed as a portion of the debt payments would be included in the FY23 budget.
Now that a resolution to scale back the proposed renovations and improvements to the Carroll Rec Center has received council approval, they will need to amend the existing agreement with RDG Planning and Design to reflect that change. Pogge-Weaver says the city council also needs to formally approve an agreement with the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) to host the state baseball tournament at Merchants Park through 2024.
Other items of business on the agenda for the Monday’ March 14 meeting are a lease agreement with Kuemper Catholic Schools to use the adult softball fields during the upcoming season and the FY23 annual salary resolution. Monday’s proceedings will begin at 5:15 p.m. at city hall, and the public is invited and encouraged to attend. The meeting will also be live-streamed via the City of Carroll YouTube page and local access cable. The full agenda and details on how to attend remotely can be found included with this story on our website.
