Fire Destroys Shed And Its Contents Near Glidden Tuesday Afternoon

A machine shed northeast of Glidden was destroyed Tuesday afternoon after a garbage fire accidentally spread to dry grasses nearby. At approximately 4:15 p.m., the Glidden and Ralston Fire Departments were dispatched to 17643 Velvet Ave. in response to the reported blaze. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire had already made its way to the structure. They successfully prevented the fire from reaching a house and other buildings on the property, but the flames did make their way to a nearby road ditch. The shed, as well as an ATV and antique tractor stored inside it, were destroyed by the blaze. No injuries were reported. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene. Due to high temperatures and winds expected today (Wednesday), almost all of Iowa is listed as very high risk according to the National Weather Service Grassland Fire Danger Index for March 16.
