City officials in Jefferson are reminding residents to clear the area around their garbage cans on pick-up days after a sanitation truck damaged a vehicle on Tuesday morning. According to the Jefferson Police Department, officers were called to the 500 block of S. Oak Street to investigate the report. Authorities say a sanitation worker was using the truck’s mechanical arm to pick up a can but struck a 2015 Jeep Cherokee parked immediately behind it. Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $3,000. No citations were issued, but officials note this incident highlights the importance of allowing enough clearance for garbage collection.
