Approximately 47 acres of farmland caught on fire just off of Highway 30 in Greene County yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. The blaze was three-quarters of a mile away from a controlled burn on Saturday. Fire crews responded to the 1300 block of Hillcrest Avenue at approximately 1:30 p.m. and fought the fire for five and a half hours. Approximately 135 hay bales also went up in flames. The fire did not reach any structures on the property. The Jefferson, Grand Junction, Scranton, and Churdan Fire Departments responded to the call.
