Daryl Hoffmann, age 64, of Carroll, died Monday, March 21, 2022 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Monday where visitation will continue from 9:30a.m. to 10:15a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to New Hope Village in Carroll. Daryl Richard, the son of John F. and Linda Mae (Thelen) Hoffmann was born was born on August 27, 1957, in Carroll, Iowa. He attended Grant #5 Rural School between Carroll and Lidderdale, he so loved his teacher, the late Moselle Loeschen.
Daryl participated in Day Services through New Hope Village starting in August of 1977. In 1986 he moved to the New Hope Village Campus. In 1992 he was able to reside in the Carroll Community via the New Hope Village Northwest Group Home where he resided until recently when he moved to the Elm Street Group Home. Daryl was proud to be able to reside in the group homes and be an active member of the Carroll Community.
Daryl was very proud to be part of New Hope Village’s Community Work Program. Where he worked at Pella, the Recycling Center, American Home Shield, and other local businesses. New Hope Village was Daryl’s second family for many years, and such a blessing for him, and so appreciated by his family. Through New Hope Village he was able to take numerous vacations, attend Camp Courageous, participate in the Special Olympics, where he won many swimming medals. He also went horseback riding and was a member of the New Hope Village Bowling League. He enjoyed playing games on his iPad, and watching game shows on TV, especially Wheel of Fortune.
He enjoyed collecting Hawkeyes and Cubs merchandise and clothing. He was all about his family, celebrating birthdays, holidays, and enjoying sleepovers. His Catholic Faith was of the upmost importance to him, always eager to attend Mass. Daryl never forgot a face, he knew many people in the Carroll Community, he always had a smile and loved to visit with everyone. You either got a sturdy handshake or a hug, and always a smile. Daryl will live on through the Iowa Donor Network, as he will be able to help others even after his passing.
He will be dearly missed by his siblings: Melvin Hoffmann of Glidden, Rosemary (Earl) Possehn of Ft. Dodge, Loras (Marlene) Hoffmann of Arcadia, Lawrence (Char) Hoffmann of Glidden, Geralyn Shirbroun (Fiancé Darwin Halterman) of Bayard; sister-in-law Donna Hoffmann of Coon Rapids, brother-in-law Jackie Cain of Kentucky; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, John and Linda Mae Hoffmann; siblings: Brenda Cain, LaVeda (Ernest) Segebart, Delbert Hoffmann, Cletus Hoffmann, John Hoffmann, LaVern Hoffmann, and a nephew Joshua Hoffmann.
