Karen Vanderheiden of Carroll

Karen Vanderheiden, 81 of Carroll, died Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be by Kathy Halbur.  Lectors will be Ann McAlister and Beverly Miller. Gift Bearers will be Mike Vanderheiden, Michele Vanderheiden and Marty Vanderheiden. Eucharistic Minister will be Richard Vanderheiden. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.  Visitation will begin at Holy Spirit Church on Tuesday with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will continue after the rosary until time of the Funeral Mass. Memorials may be left at the church for St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center.  Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Karen’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
The daughter of George and Rose (Eilers) Vanderheiden, Karen was born in Carroll, Iowa on May 26, 1940. She attended school in Auburn and graduated in 1958. Following her schooling, she was employed at the Auburn Café as a cook and baker from 1958-1966. Karen then moved to California where she was a housekeeper for St. Catherine’s Parish for 30 years, and in retirement worked part-time at Lakeside Ranch in Morgan Hill, California. For the past 10 years Karen had been residing in the Carroll Community. Karen thoroughly enjoyed using her talents of cooking and baking.
Karen is survived by her siblings: Larry Vanderheiden of Ft. Collins, CO, Richard Vanderheiden of Auburn, Michael (Marlene) Vanderheiden of Carroll and Patrick Vanderheiden of Lake City; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends in California and her many friends at Orchard View in Carroll.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Dorothy Vanderheiden, Don (Claudine) Vanderheiden, Mary Vanderheiden; her sisters-in-law, Beth Vanderheiden and Ruth Vanderheiden; her nephew, Thomas Vanderheiden; niece, Faith Steinkamp; great niece, Sarah Miller, and great-nephew, Thomas James McAlister.
