At the Carroll Chamber of Commerce annual banquet, they gave away two Humanitarian of The Year Awards due to last year’s event being canceled because of the pandemic. This award is presented for a lifelong commitment to the community’s well-being needs. These individuals give freely of their time to help others in many ways. There have been 30 recipients of this award, and some past winners are Ron Morlok, Sara Anderson, Kristen Lundstrom, and Rebecca Windschitl. Region XII Executive Director, Rick Hunsaker, presented the 2020 humanitarian award. Luanne Kustra is the 2020 Humanitarian of the Year winner for her ceaseless efforts to provide food, books, and more for families in need. Kustra wants to thank her family the most for their support.
Carroll City Manager Mike Pogge-Weaver presented 2021’s award. He says knowing and seeing there are needs in our community is sometimes challenging to find a single way to address them.
The 2021 award went to St. John Lutheran Church and the meal committee members. Bonnie Jackson, Betty Peterson, and Paster Reverend Cindy Johnson were presented the award and say they are honored to receive this award for something they have so much fun doing.
