Area Business Encouraged To Monitor Cash Transactions After Prop Bill Discovered At Jefferson Business

Area retailers are encouraged to be on the lookout for fake currency after a Jefferson business reported finding a suspicious $20 bill. Dollar General staff contacted law enforcement Monday after discovering the prop money while closing out tills the previous day. While currency intended for use in movies or plays is widely available, it is relatively easy to spot the differences from legal tender. Fake bills are nearly always marked “For Motion Picture Use Only,” have distinct textures from regular currency, and lack typical security features, such as security threads, watermarks, and color-shifting ink.
