Iowa DNR Reminds Turkey Hunters Law Allowing .410s Does Not Apply To This Year’s Spring Seasons

With spring turkey season opening at the end of this week, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters to abide by all current regulations. DNR Wildlife Bureau Chief, Todd Bishop, says, “Our seasons and regulations are set up a year ahead of time, and like other regulation changes, we incorporate the new laws into our upcoming seasons.” Bishop refers to a recent law approved by the Iowa Legislature that allows the use of .410 shotguns as a legal method of take for wild turkeys. However, the law does not become effective until July 1 of this year, meaning .410s would be prohibited during the 2022 spring seasons. Youth turkey season opens on Friday, April 8, with the remaining four seasons from April 11 through May 15.
