Carroll Merchants players on the 2022 roster are expected to begin arriving for the upcoming season just before Memorial Day. However, team organizers are still searching for families willing to host a player in their homes over the summer. According to Jen Malik and Tara Thomsen, who are members of the Merchants Housing Committee, the team will consist of about three dozen players and coaches this summer, but they still need housing for around half of them. Malik, who hosted in the past, says her experiences were overwhelmingly positive.
Thomsen adds almost everyone who welcomed a Merchants player into their home during previous seasons comes back to the program to host again. Families will need to provide a spare bedroom and food for their players, and Malik says the only other requirement is that you live somewhat close by.
The Merchants season opens Monday, May 30 in Carroll against the Des Moines Peak Prospects and runs through the end of July. They hope to have housing lined up by the end of April, and Malik encourages anybody interested or who has questions to visit www.merchantsbaseball.com.
