Motor fuel prices in Iowa dropped over the past week but remained more than a dollar higher than they were a year ago. According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.85 as of Wednesday, April 6. This is a four-cent decrease from last week and $1.07 higher than in April 2021. The national average dropped eight cents in the last week to $4.16. Retail diesel saw similar movements, dropping five cents to a statewide average of $4.77. The national average stood at $5.08. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged at $2.16 per gallon. With the winter weather mostly behind us, retail heating oil and propane price reporting will transition to only once per month. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were up 69 cents on the week to $6.26 per MMBtu.
