Routine Traffic Stop In Storm Lake Leads To Drug And Firearms Charges For Driver

The Storm Lake Police Department reports a routine traffic stop earlier this week led to drug and firearm charges against a Spencer man. Officers conducted the stop at approximately 7 p.m. in the 800 block of Ontario Street and identified the driver as 31-year-old Daniel Kenneth Douglas. A K9 unit deployed to the scene and indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Law enforcement then located drug paraphernalia, narcotics, and a .22-caliber rifle, which Douglas was prohibited from possessing due to a prior felony conviction. He was transported to the Buena Vista County jail and charged with illegal possession of a firearm, a class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended, simple misdemeanors. Douglas was held on a $5,600 bond.
