Iowa Court Of Appeals Affirms District Court’s Sentence For Carroll Man Convicted For Dec. 2020 Burglary

The Iowa Court of Appeals has affirmed a Carroll County District Court sentencing order for a Carroll man found guilty of second-degree burglary just over one year ago. Thirty-one-year-old Brice Edward Shrimpton was convicted of the class C felony charge by a jury of his peers and was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison on that count, with an additional four years in prison from a previously suspended sentence for using his car to strike another vehicle multiple times while the victim and a juvenile were still inside. Shrimpton appealed the jury’s guilty verdict and the court’s sentence on claims prosecutors did not provide sufficient evidence to support the conviction and the judge considered improper factors during sentencing. The Iowa Court of Appeals found Shrimpton’s claims to be unfounded and upheld the district court’s ruling. The burglary charge stemmed from a Dec. 15, 2020 arrest in which Shrimpton kicked down the door of a Carroll home and threatened the occupants.
