Iowans should expect to see low-flying helicopters throughout Iowa in the coming weeks as MidAmerican Energy begins its inspections of high-voltage transmission lines. According to a company spokesperson, an estimated 5,000 miles of overhead lines will be surveyed by trained flight crews through the end of the month. These aircraft will also examine hundreds of transmission towers and poles for signs of damage or wear. The aerial inspections allow teams to quickly identify hard-to-reach equipment that may need service, repair, or replacement.
