In just over three weeks, the SuperDraft softball tournament returns to Carroll, and players are excited to be back after a stellar introduction to the community last year. The first annual Carroll SuperDraft was held last May, with support from throughout the Midwest. The event is primarily organized by the SuperDraft Committee, which consists of Tad and Katie Decker, Kyle and Katie Cornelius, and Nicole and Colby McCarville. The SuperDraft 5s based off of a similar event hosted by a group of their friends in Ohio. Decker says they hoped to bring in a few thousand dollars in their first year, but the Carroll-area smashed their expectations. Decker adds there are many organizations and non-profits out there that were created to help cancer patients and are doing wonderful things. However, she says the money raised through the SuperDraft is used to treat the whole patient, including their families.
The second annual Carroll SuperDraft is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at the Carroll Softball Complex with hundreds of players and fans expected to attend. This tournament is different from other similar events, as teams do not register in advance. Instead, players are drafted and play with unique rosters each year. Decker says organizers completed the draft a few weeks ago, but there are still plenty of ways for people to support the cause.
Decker joked last year that she would do cartwheels down the baseline if they could raise over $10,000, and she was true to her word. She is upping the ante in 2022. Decker promises another round of cartwheels if they can beat last year’s fundraising total. For more information on the Carroll SuperDraft and how to donate, follow the links included below.
