The Jefferson Police Department has opened an investigation into a reported assault with a dangerous weapon. At approximately 8:53 Wednesday morning, authorities were contacted by a resident in the 500 block of W. State Street regarding an unidentified male screaming and covered in blood trying to get into the home. Upon arrival, officers located the individual and learned he had allegedly been assaulted and shot at while inside a residence in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way Street. The victim was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of his injuries. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
