Western Iowa Networks (WIN) continues to expand into southwest Iowa with their second fiber project in Mills County. A year ago, WIN announced a public-private partnership with county officials to improve broadband internet access in the rural and underserved areas surrounding Glenwood. Following the success of that endeavor, WIN and Mills County are partnering again to bring high-quality, high-speed internet to an estimated 230 additional households. WIN CEO, Jeff Roiland, says, “What we have been able to accomplish through this partnership is truly extraordinary and is a huge benefit to the residents of Mills County. The vision of the county board of supervisors to see what this will do for their home and business owners in building towards the future is quite remarkable.” Crews are expected to wrap up work on the original Loess Hills fiber project later this summer and are slated to begin on the newest expansion as soon as that construction is finished. Mills County Supervisor, Lonnie Mayberry, says, “Mills County assisted in helping WIN acquire several grants to install fiber throughout the entire unincorporated part of the county. This will help the residents of Mills County both now and into the future.” With this latest announcement, WIN now provides service to more than a dozen communities in six Iowa counties.
