U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was in Carroll last weekend for the GOP Convention. Grassley talked about inflation, rising gas prices, and record crossings at the border as signs of the current administration’s failures. Title 42 is set to expire next month, and he adds that 54 other lawmakers are hoping this gets brought up for a discussion in the senate.
Title 42 states that the law empowers federal health authorities to prohibit migrants from entering the county if it is determined that doing so could prevent the spread of contagious diseases. The Trump Administration began using this in 2020 to prevent immigrants from entering the United States. Grassley says with title 42 in place, there are still 5,000 to 6,000 people coming over illegally.
Grassley made his comments on Monday on his weekly Capitol Hill Report.
