Storm Lake Man Arrested For Brandishing Handgun

A Storm Lake man was arrested earlier this week for allegedly flashing a handgun at an individual in a motel parking lot. At approximately 2:45 a.m. on Monday, April 25, the Storm Lake Police Department responded to the Sail Inn Motel following the initial call to dispatchers. Upon arrival, law enforcement spoke with witnesses, who told authorities a passenger in a vehicle had pointed a gun at the victim before fleeing the scene. Officers identified the suspect as 37-year-old Brian Brown and located him later the same day at an apartment in the 1500 block of Seneca Street. Authorities executed a search warrant at the apartment and seized narcotics, drug paraphernalia, four firearms, and ammunition. Brown was taken into custody and booked into the Buena Vista County jail on charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of controlled substances, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Brown was held on a $3,300 bond. Forty-two-year-old Jermain Whiteside, also of Storm Lake, was at the apartment when the warrant was served and has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
