Gov. Reynolds Leads Midwest Governors In Appeal To EPA To Allow Unrestricted E15 Sales In Individual States

Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds, joined seven other Midwest governors in an appeal to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a permanent waiver that would allow individual states to sell E15 fuel throughout the year without restriction. The letter, dated April 28, requests EPA Administrator, Michael Regan, relax the tight regulations on gasoline volatility, known as Reid vapor pressure (RVP). Reynolds says, “This letter sends the clear message that renewable fuels are the immediate solution to high gas prices, lower emissions, and restoring our energy independence, and we are proud to stand up and take this historic action. As the Governor of the top renewable fuel-producing state, I am proud to again lead a letter with my colleagues to ensure that consumers will have unrestricted and permanent access to less expensive, homegrown E15.” The federal Clean Air Act permits individual states to sell E15 year-round without restriction once granted approval. Other governors joining in the letter include: Pete Ricketts of Nebraska; JB Pritzker of Illinois; Laura Kelly of Kansas; Tim Walz of Minnesota; Doug Burgum of North Dakota; Kristi Noem of South Dakota; and Tony Evers of Wisconsin. These states make up about 10 percent of total U.S. gasoline sales. A copy of the letter can be found below.
