DNR Officials Say 50 To 100 Gallons Of Wastewater Reached The Boyer River In Denison

An estimated 50 to 100 gallons of processed wastewater reached the Boyer River in Denison yesterday afternoon (Sunday). At approximately 2:45 p.m., alarms rang at Smithfield Foods when a wastewater processer malfunctioned, and Smithfield staff immediately closed a nearby storm drain. Staff continues the cleanup efforts, but the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) does not recommend recreation in the area until the cleanup is complete. The DNR will monitor the cleanup and consider appropriate enforcement action.
