A driver sustained minor injuries after crashing his car when he fell asleep at the wheel Sunday evening near Panora. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Highway 44 and Viola Avenue at approximately 10:01 p.m. on a report of a single-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, law enforcement spoke with the driver, identified as 18-year-old Colten Cody Morrill Jr. of Adair. He told authorities he had fallen asleep while traveling westbound on the highway. The 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt had entered the north ditch and came to rest facing westbound. A female passenger in the car was uninjured, but Guthrie County Emergency Medical Services transported Morrill to Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center for treatment of injuries to his face and neck. Damage to the Cobalt was estimated at $3,000, and the driver was cited for failure to maintain control.
