A Carroll man faces felony charges for allegedly stealing nearly $3,500 from a local convenience store through lottery fraud. According to Carroll County District Court records, 23-year-old Cody Jonathon Wolfe is charged with lottery forgery or theft and second-degree theft, class D felonies, following an investigation by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities alleged Wolfe had stolen lotto tickets while working at the Sparky’s One Stop in the 1500 block of Plaza Drive on April 16. The investigation also found Wolfe had been voiding customer transactions and pocketing the cash between Feb. 1 and April 21. In total, 459 transactions were voided totaling $3,496.95. Wolfe was taken into custody and booked into the Carroll County jail earlier this week. He was released Tuesday on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 19. Each class D felony charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
