May is National Foster Care Month which is a time to acknowledge families and professionals who help children and youth in foster care find a permanent home. Danette Morgan, who is with Lutheran Services in Iowa, says it is essential for children to know that foster care is an option if they need a safe place to go. Morgan mentions how many kids they took in last year.
She details how you can sign up to become a foster parent.
Morgan says after individuals fill out the form, they will contact you to chat and set up times to attend their orientations. She adds that their orientations are online, and the one for the Carroll area is coming up on May 24.
Once the background check is clear, they will put you in a Tips Maps Class. Morgan explains what will be taught in the class.
Morgan adds it does take a while to become a foster parent, and that is because everything they do is for the children to be put in a safe home.
