Main Street Coon Rapids is ushering in the summer season this weekend with their annual Main Street Block Party, promising fun for the whole family. Main Street Director, Katie Mason, says they first introduced the block party a few years ago to bring the community together, and it has grown into an event that the whole area now enjoys.
The activities are centered in downtown Coon Rapids on Main Street between 4th and 5th Avenues beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29. Mason says they have events planned for all ages, including children. Kids can play on the inflatables, test their skills at carnival games in the American Legion, make their own tie-dye shirts, and compete in the Minnow Races. Mason says one of the best parts for families is that the Kids Zone is offered at no charge.
Registration for the popular bags tournament opens from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. that day, with the contest beginning at 2 p.m. It is $50 per team with $500 in Coon Bucks prizes to be awarded to the top finishers. The beer garden opens in downtown at 2 p.m., with bingo running from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mason says they will close out the night with live music.
