Gasoline Prices In Iowa Continue Their Push Into Record Highs

According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, fuel prices continued pushing into record-high territories again over the past week. As of Wednesday, May 25, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $4.23 across the state, an eight-cent rise from last week and a $1.34 higher than a year ago. The national average climbed three cents to $4.60 leading into Memorial Day, which is anticipated to be one of the most highly traveled in recent years. Retail diesel prices dropped by six cents in the last seven days to a statewide average of $5.20 per gallon. This is still $2.15 higher than in May 2021 but below the $5.54 national average. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged at $2.16 per gallon. Natural gas prices climbed nearly a dollar at the Henry Hub reporting site to $9.23 per MMBtu.
