Carroll Historic Preservation Commission Brings History To Life Monday At Carroll City Cemetery

The Carroll Historic Preservation Commission is bringing history to life at the Carroll City Cemetery on Monday following the Memorial Day services hosted by the Carroll American Legion. The cemetery was established 150 years ago, and the commission is marking the occasion with a special cemetery character walk. Commission President, Vicki Gach, says almost 200 years of Carroll’s history will be on display during the presentation.

The list of residents to be portrayed ranges from prominent businessmen and women, attorneys, politicians, and more. Commission Member, Carolyn Siemann, says the cemetery also features dozens of Civil War veterans.

The walking tour runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 30 and is free for the public to attend. In the event of inclement weather, the presentation will move indoors to the Kuemper Fieldhouse, located just across the street from the cemetery to the east. 150th-anniversary calendars will be available for purchase during the cemetery walk for $5 each. Money raised from calendar sales will be used to support the Carroll Historic Preservation Commission.
