A nonprofit organization formed four years ago in central Iowa to help military veterans and first responders rekindle their love for the outdoors is expanding into western Iowa. True Impact Outdoors (TIO) has hosted deer, turkey, and pheasant hunts since 2018, but most of those were based in the eastern two-thirds of the state. According to Eric Weber, a True Impact Outdoors volunteer, the group held its first western Iowa hunt last fall and is actively working on getting the word out to vets who live on this side of the state.
Their goal is to provide veterans interested in hunting the opportunity to do so, despite any injury they may have sustained while in the line of duty. Weber says they have a wide range of different equipment to help almost any vet have a successful outing.
Weber says one of the most challenging aspects of working with True Impact Outdoors is convincing veterans to participate in one of their hunts. However, nearly all of them return for future excursions.
Weber says getting on the roster is a breeze.
Weber adds True Impact Outdoors is always in need of donations, equipment, and volunteers. To learn more about the organizations or to donate, visit www.trueimpactoutdoors.com or use the contact points included with this story on our website.
