Iowa DNR Issues A No-Swim Advisory For Parts Of Twin Lakes

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued a no-swim advisory for parts of Twin Lakes. As of Saturday, June 11, the advisory is still in effect for the North Twin Lake West Beach. According to officials, Microcystin algae is in the water and is often fatal to animals. Microcystin is a potent liver toxin; some symptoms are cough, sore throat, chest pains, asthma-like symptoms, and more. Symptoms may take hours or days to show up in people or animals. Individuals who experience symptoms need to visit their health care provider. It is unclear how long the advisory will be in effect. The DNR will give out results every Friday.
