Rep. Feenstra Pushes For Legislation To Curb Inflation And Government Spending

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest report shows year-over-year inflation rose by 8.6 percent in May. Iowa Fourth District Congressman Randy Feenstra is renewing his push to limit government spending until the inflation rate drops to near-normal levels. Feenstra’s bill, titled the Inflation Prevention Act, would prevent legislation estimated to increase inflation from becoming law until the inflation rate falls below 4.5 percent. Feenstra co-sponsored the bill when it was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in January. A companion bill, sponsored by Senators Tim Scott of South Carolina and John Thune of South Dakota, has also been introduced in the Senate. No action has been taken in the five months since the legislation was referred to the respective chambers’ committees. Feenstra says, “Contrary to what Democrats have claimed for months, inflation is not transitory, and Iowans are paying the price, particularly in our rural communities. Prices for gas, groceries, and everyday household goods are through the roof because of Biden’s wasteful, radical agenda. We can’t continue to print money, increase our debt, and ask Iowans to foot the bill. That’s why I’m proud to help introduce the Inflation Prevention Act so that we can actually fight inflation, lower costs for Iowa families, and reduce our crippling $30 trillion debt.” Feenstra was not challenged in the Republican primaries earlier this month and faces Democrat Ryan Melton and Libertarian Kyle Grossman in his bid for a second term.
