A week from today (Friday), the Carroll County Relay for Life returns to the Carroll Athletic Field with a back-to-normal feel after two years of altered events due to the pandemic. According to Committee Chair Austin Scott, Relayers could not host their normal fundraising activities or celebrate survivors in 2020 or 2021, but teams, sponsors, and survivors are excited to head back to the track for a more traditional Relay for Life. The 2022 American Cancer Society (ACS) Carroll County Relay for Life begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 24, with last-minute registration and sign-in opening at 4 p.m. Scott says they have a busy schedule of activities, entertainment, and more scheduled for that evening.
Scott adds their opening ceremonies are slated for 6 p.m. Friday, with the annual survivors’ lap scheduled for 7 p.m. Like many non-profit organizations, the American Cancer Society saw a decrease in contributions during the pandemic. Historically, Carroll County has been one of the top fundraisers per capita. Scott says they are hoping to crack the top five yet again.
He says the Relay is an excellent opportunity for people to get back into the habit of philanthropic work. If interested in lending a hand with the upcoming events, Scott says they are still searching for volunteers.
