Collapsed Sewer Pipe Leads To Wastewater Discharge In Carroll Monday Morning

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was in Carroll yesterday (Monday) monitoring the cleanup of a wastewater overflow near the St. Anthony Regional Hospital campus. Authorities say an unknown amount of discharge escaped from a manhole and made its way into the Middle Raccoon River. City and hospital staff stopped the spill at approximately 11 a.m. and determined the cause was likely a collapsed sewer pipe owned by the hospital. DNR staff took water samples and checked the river for contaminants. They recommend residents keep children and pets out of the river for the next 24 to 48 hours. DNR staff will continue monitoring cleanup and consider appropriate enforcement action if necessary.
