A staple in downtown Carroll will close its doors in the coming week. Uptown Sporting Goods has been open for 50 years serving Carroll and the surrounding communities. Owner Larry Greteman says the store has been in the family for a long time.
Due to the store closing, there will be a retirement sale starting tomorrow (Thursday) from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Greteman says the main reason for the store closing is supply chain issues.
Greteman adds they are not looking at selling the building yet, but they would love to have someone come in and open up another sporting goods store.
Greteman says his wife Tammy and him will stay in the Carroll area, and closing the store was in their plans, but way sooner than they wanted it to be. He also wants to thank Carroll and the surrounding communities for the support. He says being in business for 28 years, they have seen kids grow up and now see some of their kids do the same thing. Again, the retirement sale will begin tomorrow (Thursday) from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Uptown Sporting Goods.
