The Crawford County Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach office is inviting local producers and agribusinesses to an upcoming seminar on the prevalence of suicide in the agricultural community. The hour-long course is scheduled for Thursday, June 30 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Denison. It features training in the “Question. Persuade. Refer.” or the QPR program. Kathy Thul, who is with the Crawford County Extension Office, says, “Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver helped save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.” The seminar is open to anybody involved in the agricultural industry, including lenders and bankers, veterinarians, vet techs, commodity group members, producers, social service professionals, and others. Preregistration is due no later than Wednesday, June 29, and can be completed by following the link included below.
