Carroll Residents Reminded Firework Use Limited Within City Limits

The Fourth of July weekend is finally here, and Iowans are preparing to celebrate 246 years of our nation’s independence with parties and fireworks. While fireworks are available for purchase within Carroll city limits, Police Chief Brad Burke says that does not mean they can be used in town.

Fireworks have been legal in Iowa for several years now. However, individual cities and counties have the ability to place additional restrictions on them, and Carroll has been consistent in not allowing their use within city limits. Burke says they generally are not an issue except for the weeks before and after the Fourth of July.

Burke adds individuals found in non-compliance could face some hefty fines up to $850. He says they also carry the risk of causing injury or starting fires.

As of Wednesday, he is not aware of any firework-related injuries in the surrounding region either. Area law enforcement agencies urge Iowans to celebrate safely over the Fourth of July weekend.
