A Denison man accused of fleeing from law enforcement in Manning in a stolen vehicle earlier this year has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 22-year-old Atem Duot was initially charged with second-degree theft and eluding, class D felonies, following his March 11 arrest by the Manning Police Department that began with an attempted traffic stop on Highway 141. Duot will plead guilty to one count of eluding as part of the plea agreement, and the felony theft charge will be dismissed after sentencing. Duot filed his guilty plea with the court on Wednesday. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Aug. 11. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
