Jerome Langel, 91 of Templeton, died Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Addington Place in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder. Concelebrants will be Fr. Steve Brodersen and Fr. Merlin Schrad. Mass servers will be Joseph Dea and Jaxson Klein. Music will be by Hannah Kerkhoff, Carolyn Miller, Anna Langel, and the Templeton Men’s Choir. Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Gene Langel. Gift Bearers will be Rosie Wernimont, Linda Bauer, and Lois Hoffmann. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Dan Bauer, Gene Brincks, Rich Halbur, LaVern Kommes, Dan Thielen, Bill Rupiper, Dale Schlichte, Ron Langel, LeRoy Schlichte, and Leroy Schultes. Casket Bearers will be Sara Langel, Anna Langel, Matt Langel, Mitchell Langel, Ron Lutwitz, and Dave Bauer. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary at 5 p.m. led by the Knights of Columbus. Born on March 7, 1931 in Templeton, Iowa, Jerome was the son on A.H. “Henry” and Anna (Thielen) Langel. He grew up southeast of Templeton and attended Sacred Heart School. Jerome served in the United States Army from 1954-1956, and following his honorable discharge returned to the Templeton
area.
On May 21, 1957, Jerome was united in marriage to Ivadell Bruning. To this union was a son Glen. He and his wife Kay have 4 children. Following their marriage, the couple lived in town for a short time before moving to their farm east of Templeton. In 1995, they moved to their home in Templeton. Jerome was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Templeton Knights of Columbus, and Dedham American Legion. He very much enjoyed his grandchildren and rarely missed any of their activities. He loved them dearly, especially seeing all of them active in the farm operation and carrying on the tradition. Jerome also enjoyed baseball, rooting for the Cubs and Cardinals. In his younger years he enjoyed trap shooting
and hunting. Three years ago, July 1 st , the couple moved to Addington Place in Carroll. After moving there, they spent many trips to the farm to see the livestock and crops grow. We could drive around the country for hours and he would always say “boy do I enjoy this.”
Jerome is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ivadell Langel; his son Glenn and his wife Kay of Templeton; his grandchildren: Sara, Mitchell, Anna and Matthew; as well as many extended relatives and many friends.
His parents and his brother Gerald preceded him in death.
